Easy steps to bowling - Bowling tips and rules
  Object of the Game
The object of the game is for you and the ball to arrive at the foul line at the same time: roll the ball within reasonable control; and score points by knocking pins down.

How to hold the ball
Thumb and middle fingers go into the holes.
T0ips of little finger should touch.

Where to Stand
Start at the foul line facing away from the pins. Take 4 and a half normal walking steps & turn around to face the pins.
This should be the correct distance for a four step approach.
Line up one of your feet with one of the spots on the approach. Preferably the centre spot or one to the right.

Feet separated about 4-6 inches with both feet pointing straight down the lane.
Left handed bowlers reverse the procedure described for right handed bowlers.
Stand at the same spot each time you deliver your first ball.
Don't move around.

How to take your steps
1) Pushway
Push the ball out and down. Step out with your right foot with the same motion.

2) Pendulm Swing
As you take your second step, the ball swings down and back.
Left hand extends out to the side for balance.

3) Backswing
Don't bend your elbows. Ball is now at the top of your backswing. Ball is no higher than shoulder height.

4) Sliding Step
As the ball passes your sliding foot, allow it to roll off your hand and allow your hand to follow through.

Follow Through
Don't stop your arm, let it swing on up.
Left arm extended for balance.
Don't open your hands when releasing the ball. Keep your fingers in the grip position.
Thumbs should always point toward 11 o'clock.
Hips and shoulders squared towards target.

The Strike Ball
To roll the ball into the pocket, find your point of origin, then line up the ball with the right shoulder and second arrow and walk straight toward the target.

How to Convert Spares
For pins left of the head pin, move your feet to the right and aim cross lane to the left of the head pin.

For pins to the right of the head pin, move your feet to the left and aim cross lane to the right of the head pin.

Move 3 boards either way for each pin difference from the head pin.
1) Move your feet 6 boards to the right.
2) Move your feet 9 boards to the left.

Keeping Score
A complete game of 10 frames. Two balls are rolled in each frame to knock all the pins down. If a strike is rolled then only one ball is rolled in that frame. A spare in the 10th frame gives you one extra ball.

6 = Pins knocked down on the first ball entered here.
2 = Pinfall of second ball here.
8 = Total pinfall entered here.

X = If you knock down all the pins with the first ball, it is a STRIKE marked with an X. The next ball begins a new frame. A strike counts 10 plus the total pinfall of the next two balls.

/ = If you knock down all the pins with two deliveries in a frame, it is a SPARE marked /. It counts for 10 in that frame plus the total pinfall of the next ball.

S = A Split, shown as S, is marked when two or more pins are left standing without pins between or in front down with second ball count as normal.

F = A FOUL marked F is charged when any part of your body touches the lane or any structure of the lane side of the foul line. Pins knocked down do not count.

Bowling Etiquette

Be prepared to take your turn on the lane.
Remember the player to the right has right of way.
If the player from the left picks the ball from the rack before you, allow him to bowl first.
Stay in your own approach area. After your ball hits the pins walk directly to the back of the approach.
Please make sure you are wearing the correct shoes and don't take food or drink onto the lane approach.
Don't interrupt a bowler after they're taken their position.
Stay behind the foul lines at all times.
Be a good loser and a gracious winner.

If you have any problems with your lane (shuts off, balls don't return), don't panic, contact reception or press your service light.
